The sheer complexity of options can be a big part of the challenge, which is where the introduction of a single management tool across all devices allows you to maintain control.
Configuration Manager (SCCM) is designed for IT teams to automate management of their IT estates, drive greater operational efficiency, realise improved administrative control, and benefit from granular reporting about every device and application on the network. It allows you to set up the right applications, operating systems and updates across different groups of user devices.
SCCM can be used for distributing OS images, software installations and configurations specific to a particular department or team and simplify the ongoing management.
It enables administrators to manage the initial Windows OS installation for a new machine and configure groups of workstations with the right software or patches. You can run reports on a group of workstations to check software licences, network setups, disk space usage and remotely manage virus or malware infections.
Configuration Manager supports the management of devices beyond a perimeter firewall through integration with Windows Intune™ – Microsoft’s cloud-based client-management product.
When linked with Configuration Manager through the Windows Intune connector, you can manage devices that are running Windows RT, Windows RT 8.1, Windows Phone® 8, and supported versions of the Android and Apple (iOS) mobile operating systems.
The Windows Intune connector can be utilised to enable Configuration Manager to also manage non domain-joined computers that are running Windows PC operating systems.
System Center 2012 R2 Configuration Manager also supports distribution points based on Windows Azure™. Windows Azure distribution points enable delivery of Configuration Manager–based content from Windows Azure to clients. This reduces the complexity involved in providing content to client devices that are outside an organisation’s perimeter firewall either temporarily or permanently.
We have helped a number of leading Commercial, Academic and Charitable customers with their Microsoft SCCM design, planning and project installation.
